Join me today, and listen above to the Saturday, December 9, 2006, 12PM to 3PM, installment of Jazz Interface on this second Saturday in December. I have Brad Mersereau's Christmas Carol and some other early Christmas music submisssions. Also listen to this
NPR Story by Felix Contreas about the music of Vince Guaraldi. He illustrates the circumstances that surrounded this music's role in the Christmas special, the album for which has never been out of print. The special very nearly did not air because of the music.
An audio letter to NPR followed that broadcast a couple of days later from a gentleman in his shop sanding some crown molding His reaction to the story was not unlike mine and I imagine many of you.

We'll hear some Vince Guaraldi.

Brad Mersereau and Marilyn Keller have a wonderful Christmas Carol dedicated to Gerry Young. He will be at the London Grill on December 15, and you can hear this then and all of his other work. This Carol features Michael Elliot arrangement, Marilyn Keller vocal, Cheryl Alex flute, Brad Mersereau piano, Phil Baker bass, Ron Steen percussion, and the producer is Steve Christofferson. It is included in today's program.

Bill Fetsch told us that he has been diagnosed with Lung cancer. He asked us to keep him in our thoughts and prayers and I know we will do exactly that. He is a very good friend to me and has taught me a lot, not the least of which is his great humor. I am immeasureably enriched by his knowledge of Traditional Jazz and his dedication to KMHD, recording two programs a week which brought in substantial financial support for us. We love ya Bill and those great Burma Shave Slogans.

Intoduction
Welcome to Saturday Jazz Lunch. This program is hosted by four individuals a team of musical chefs if you will. Every second Saturday it is my pleasure to serve up the menu on an edition called Jazz Interface. My name is Shawn Kirkeby. Geoff will be here next Saturday for another long lunch. Rita Rega will be here on the 4th Saturday and Judy will begin in the month of December- Stirring up great dishes as we continue in this holiday season.
Let me send you my regards for this veterans day, both former and active.
On todays show we will have a good sampling on this Saturday Jazz Lunch. Relax and hang out until three, unbutton your pants even. Early Days
My name is Shawn Kirkeby, and in the summer of 1984, I heard a call on the airwaves of a fledgling radio station on the campus of Mount Hood Community College for volunteers. I had some time and took them up on it. After meeting the station manager Kirk Wille, he handed me a manual for operation of round dial pots or volume controls and the mixing board generally, pointed to the studio and said, "practice".

Growth
We have progressed technologically and the music genre continues to grow. There are only a handfull of jazz radio stations broadcasting. KMHD is unique in its connection to a vibrant jazz community that entertains, innovates. and teaches.

I offered this package at Atkinson Elementary School's Auction in November of 2005. Atkinson is part of the Portland Public School system and is located on 58th and SE Divsion street. It was part of the silent auction just down the table from Tom Grants CDs. I got in touch with the Cowals and we arranged to meet during "Jazz Interface" which airs every second saturday of the month.
